Covid-19: Kloof SPCA continues to fight for animal rights:

While the SPCA will remain closed to visitors, its inspectorate department will continue with their invaluable work.

THE Kloof and Highway SPCA is an essential service provider and will continue to provide care to the animals on its property during the 21-day lockdown. Please be aware of the following information, which will be implemented from 12am on 26 March 2020 until 17 April 2020:

The Kloof and Highway SPCA will be closed to the public, this includes its reception, clinic, tea garden, donation area and its charity and thrift shops.

“Our clinic is closed for consultations, vaccinations and all routine procedures and sterilisations. For an animal emergency, please phone our emergency number 073 3359 322,” said the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s manager, Barbara Patrick.

“Our inspectorate team will be on duty 24/7 for the 21 days and will be attending to animal emergencies, animal cruelty complaints and proactive calls to all facilities which house animals in our area,” said Patrick.

The NPO will not be available to collect stray animals. “If our inspectors or staff need to interact with members of the public, we will make sure that we wear protective clothing, masks, booties and will use sanitisers,” continued Patrick. Staff, including a manager, vet or vet nurse will be on duty each day from Monday to Sunday from 8am to 4pm.

“All our animals will be taken care of. Each one will have their areas cleaned, they will be fed, have clean water and bedding. Treats and toys will be given and the dogs will be walked and cats, kittens and puppies will have someone spending time with them every day,” said Patrick.

Should your pet go missing during the lockdown, send an e-mail with all the details of your pet, including photos to reception@kloofspca.co.za.

“Should your pet be at our SPCA, we will contact you and advise the costs and make an appointment for you to claim your pet.

“We will ask you to do an EFT and send us proof of payment to reception@kloofspca.co.za. This e-mail address is being monitored daily and once your payment reflects in our bank account, we will release your pet,” said Patrick.

Stray pets can be claimed by owners between 9am and 11am each day, by appointment only.

The staff member will be in protective clothing, booties, masks and will sanitise.

Owners will be required to complete an owner claim form. All stray animals will be vaccinated and microchipped and this cost will be included in the Kloof SPCA’s admin and boarding cost per day.

The organisation’s emergency/disaster team includes its vets, vet nurses, the inspectorate team and managers.
