Mission accepted! Meet Highway Mail’s junior blogger

Children, join the Highway Mail junior blogger as she shares stories of Lighties on Lockdown in her blog.

THE mission has started…
Monday, 30 March: Day 4
Today is the first time I am writing about this crisis known as Covid-19 for the Highway Mail in this blog I will call #Lighties on Lockdown.

There is currently a world-wide pandemic of the coronavirus which has resulted in a lockdown.

We must stay in our own homes and yards for the safety of ourselves and our nation.

Come with me on my journey through these times of boredom.

My name is Evangeline and I live in Durban.

Most of you who are reading this are probably getting tired of staring at the ceiling and wondering what to do.
If you don’t have a garden, or live in a flat, these times must be very difficult and boring, but I am so grateful because I have a house and a garden.

There are people who have no home but at least some of these people were put in some sort of shelter to eliminate the spread of Covid-19.

Keeping occupied

There are many things I have done to keep myself occupied. For instance, my cousin and I made a veggie garden and I painted a sign for it as well.

My cousin also made and painted a wooden cart with me and it was a lot of fun to do. We made it with some scrap wood and nails and it almost broke but my uncle helped us find the problem and fix it before it got worse.

I also have helped my mum clean the house because it was cluttered so that she could set up a home office for herself to work from.

She is a journalist and right now her job is very important because people need accurate information at this time.

Planning

So far I have managed to keep boredom at bay for myself but the time at home is sure to cause me to start feeling bored again.

My mum and I have come up with a plan to do school work at home starting on 2 April, because no one wants to go back to school on April Fool’s Day.

This will help me not to get behind in my work, as well as help make the days we have to spend at home go quicker.

We are also fearful this lockdown might be extended, so we have to learn and think of new ways to keep ourselves occupied because parents can’t always entertain you.

Just have fun, play board games and give the adults a bit of a rest.

Tuesday, 31 March: Day 4

Yes, the mission has been accepted.  I plan to ace this mission of staying healthy, having fun and surviving the coronavirus outbreak.

I also plan to start my vlog (YouTube channel) during this lockdown period, so would love to hear from you what type of content you would enjoy most.  When I am ready I will share the link here so you can join my vlog and learn how I react to this and stay in good enough condition.

Today was very interesting for me. If interesting is sitting in one room watching YouTube videos the whole morning.  OK, it is not like I would choose to do this.

It is just my gran, my mum, my aunt, my uncle, my cousin and I.

We all live on the same property in three different houses – sort of like a family compound, but not fancy like the Guptas.

Sometimes this is fantastic but other times it is a nightmare.  Like today for example. Because my uncle, aunt and mum all work for essential services I was stuck at home with my cousin and my gran the whole morning.

My cousin and I were in the main house while my gran was in the granny flat. Under the rules set by my gran we were not allowed outside, not allowed to bake and were left to clean the house.

However, my mum came home earlier than expected so we were finally freed!

Writer’s block

Right now I have writer’s block. It is really annoying because I’ve done nothing interesting today to write about except for watching a lot of my favourite YouTubers, Azzyland and King of Random the whole day.

Fun right?  There is some stuff I can do but my mom is occupied, my cousin is busy with school work and my gran is watching TV, so whatever I do it will be done with no one else but me and in extreme heat and that doesn’t sound like fun.

Share your favourite channels with me and I might do a review of their videos in my blog.

At least I have you guys reading these posts to occupy me in the meantime. I’d love to hear from you, so please contact me via my mum (see her message below the link to the story about the rubbish collection) with requests for content, questions, or even just a “hello” from your home to mine.
