SPAR’s hearty donation creates hope

Within a week, Knowles SPAR was able to amass 1 500 bags of energy-rich cereal for the residents of Motala Heights.

WITHIN a week of learning of the plight faced by the residents in Motala Heights, Knowles SuperSPAR rallied to gather enough supplies for an essential donation.

After President Cyril Ramaphosa’s statement on measures to combat Covid-19 where he noted that gatherings of more than 100 people were prohibited, the donation of 1 500 bags of SPAR porridge meal solution needed to be handled with care.

The local store donated R20 000 of the energy packed breakfast to ensure that each family was given two bags. Knowles SuperSPAR ensured the donation was handed out in a carefully controlled environment.

“I wanted to do something special for the community and reach out to them. As Knowles SuperSPAR, we wanted to get involved and donate and help the families for a month or so. With Easter around the corner, I appeal to other businesses in the area to step up, get involved and help the people involved,” said owner of Knowles SPAR, Roy Sheodin.

Pastor Krish Govender from the Motala Heights Christian Fellowship: Heart of Compassion Centre, said the community is celebrating health awareness month and believed the food donation couldn’t have happened at a more pertinent time.

“We want to thank Knowles SuperSPAR for sponsoring this food,” said Krish.
