Hillcrest SANBS to host blood donor drive

Amid the Covid-19 crisis, the Hillcrest SANBS has assured its donors that all precautions have been taken to ensure their health and safety is a priority.

AS Easter fast approaches, the Rotary Club of Hillcrest encourages Highway residents to donate blood at the SANBS at the Colony Centre in Hillcrest during its blood drive on Saturday, 28 March from 9am to 2pm.

The Hillcrest SANBS clinic supervisor, Ingrid Marlton, assured donors that there will be a maximum of 10 people at a time inside the branch.

“People are being assessed by the door, hands are being sprayed and we are following all of the sanitising processes,” she said.

All visitors to SANBS will be assessed via a questionnaire for Covid-19 exposure.

International visitors will not be allowed entry to the premises if they travelled during the past 14 days and have not tested negative for the virus.

“We encourage our donors to delay their donation if they are exhibiting flu-like symptoms or signs of infection. We request our donors who have travelled to countries with known cases to delay their donations for at least 21 days,” said Ingrid.

If you are in good health and between the ages of 16 and 65, weigh more than 50kg and lead a sexually safe lifestyle, go to this blood drive.

“Donors are not at risk coming to us. We desperately need them to come through as the blood stocks are going to fall in the next few weeks,” she said.

Hillcrest SANBS confirmed that it will be open and will be accepting blood donations during the Corvid-19 lockdown.
