Hatton Estate water shortage is a massive problem for elderly

With the coronavirus escalating, residents questioned how can they was their hands regularly if they do not have water.

THE water outage in some of the areas in Hatton Estate, Pinetown has taken its toll on residents, especially the elderly at the Pinetown Nursing Home.

Owner of the home, Jeanne Nimmo said they have been without water since Monday morning.

“This is such an inconvenience, we have had such a bad week and the worst part is that even though the problem has been identified no one has any idea when this will be fixed.”

According to Nimmo, they were told that there are not enough plumbers.

“There are old people here, on Monday, they had no water to use the toilets or bath. The water tankers started coming through on Tuesday but it’s still an inconvenience. We need the municipality to fix this,” she said.

Nimmo added that this is unacceptable with the country facing a crisis.

“How are we suppose to wash our hands constantly if we have none. There are 80 old people in this home and there are other elderly homes in the area which are affected,” she said.
