Suspect falls to his death at Krantzkloof Nature Reserve after house robbery

While trying to flee, the suspect dropped the stolen items which were later identified by the homeowner.

THE BODY of a house robber, who fell to his death on Thursday, 12 March, along the Molweni trail, was found this morning after a six-hour operation.

According to Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Captain Linzi Smith, the suspect was chased, along the Molweni trail at Krantzkloof Nature Reserve, by a Blue Security Reaction Officer, after he committed a house robbery.

While trying to flee, the suspect dropped the stolen items from the house which were later identified by the owner.

“The suspect slipped and fell 50 metres from the trail into the river. A risk assessment was conducted by search and rescue teams from Durban SAPS, Durban K9 unit and Metro Police and they decided to suspend the recovery due to fading light,” said Cpt Smith.

“This morning (13 March), the search and rescue teams along with Life Response EMS, LCRC, Hillcrest SAPS and Medico Legal Mortuary returned to the scene. The body was recovered after a six-hour rope rescue operation and carried 600 metres out of the reserve,” she added.
