This week in the Queensburgh News: Stories in this week’s paper

The sad story about a Seaveiw boy who died of electrocution is among the local Queensburgh stories in this week's Queensburgh News, which came out on Tuesday.

KYLE O’Reilly, the 11-year-old who died after treading on a wire while playing with friends is front page news this week.

His story is a heart breaking one, but sadly, not unusual. Many stories are written in South Africa about deaths due to illegal electricity connections.

The paper features a photo of his father, Wayne, crouched near another electric wire in the bush after he and others retraced Kyle’s final steps the weekend before he had to lay his child to rest.

The story tells of the tragic loss of a child, and continues onto page 2.

Other stories which feature prominently this week (Week ending 28 February) in the Queensburgh News, include the lucky escape of a truck driver when he was ejected from his cab in an accident on the M7, the story behind how deliveries of the paper take the news from the factor floor to the homes and businesses in the community, and a story about a spike in crime in Seaview leaving residents feeling afraid in their homes.

While seeking comment from the local Community Policing Forum, Bellair CPF, about the above story, the chairman, Malcolm Naidoo, noted the recent election of the new chair for Bellair CPF Sector 2, Raihaan Mohomed.

Happier news

On a more uplifting note, this week’s paper features pictures on the back page from the reopening of the Queensurgh Sports Association (QSA).

The facility had to close late last year due to the finances and at the time the Queensburgh News featured a story on its font page as well as a live Facebook video post with members of the committee who were trying to save the association.
