Richmond Road is a ‘great disappointment’

The DA PR Ward 15 councillor, Marlaine Nair, and the Beier Group have called on the eThekwini Municipality to revitalise Richmond Road.

OPEN trenches, abandoned mounds of rubble and piles of refuse along Richmond Road in Pinetown are just a few issues that pedestrians and motorists must navigate each day.

DA PR councillor for ward 15, Marlaine Nair and Hans Beier of Beier Group recently called on the roads inspector to join them for an oversight inspection regarding the state of Richmond Road.

Councillor Nair has logged various complaints concerning Richmond Road, but none have been attended to.

Beier expressed great disappointment with the state of Richmond Road, especially, he noted, since it is one of the main roads in Pinetown.

Councillor Nair stated that she welcomed the interest Beier had shown in the surrounding area and commended him for going the extra mile by planting shrubs and trees on the road adjacent to his business, at his own cost.

“We need more private/city partnerships like this to ensure that the city we live in improves,” said Nair. “Its important that we become active citizens who take an active role, continuously holding the city to account by reporting issues and then following up with public representatives. The poor communication between departments often leads to poor service delivery.”

Nair urged residents to lodge complaints with the city and, if the problems were not attended to, to follow this up by contacting councillors with their reference numbers. Complaints can be sent to eservices@durban.gov.za.
