Durban artist, Giffy bridges gap between art and nature

Leap into action and help create awareness for the local amphibians at the Leap Day for Frogs fund-raiser on 29 February.

LET’S face it, frogs have a bad rap among humans. It is either their slimy skin, the wart myth, their throaty midnight croak chorus, or a combination of all three, that has two-legged beings giving them a wide birth.

In truth, frogs are the most threatened group of species on Earth and are on the brink of extinction.

Local street artist, Giffy Duminy, hopes to connect residents with the beauty of nature through his larger-than-life work.

He has since been given stewardship of Elizabeth Bridge in Kloof by The Kloof Project and has helped fill the grey structure with gorgeous pops of colour, highlighting the endangered Kloof Frog, in particular.

So far he has enlisted the help of talented graffiti artists Mook Lion, Ewok Robinson and Dre Thyssen to complete murals on the walls.

On Leap Day for Frogs, which falls on 29 February, he will be joined by a host of other artists to help fill the rest of the structure with bursts of colour and creativity.
