16 injured as taxi overtuns and smashes into parked cars in New Germany

The taxi smashed through the fence to a business before it landed on its roof on top of parked cars.

SIXTEEN people were injured in a serious taxi accident along Escom Road, near Pineside Road, in New Germany this afternoon.

A taxi driver is alleged to have lost control of the vehicle before it crashed through a fence and landed on its roof, on top of parked vehicles.

A total of 16 people were treated at the scene.

Rescue Care paramedics were called to the scene.

“Multiple patients lay around the accident scene and immediately more ambulances and advanced life support units were dispatched to assist,” said Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson.

One passenger was trapped in the wreckage and the Jaws of Life were needed to free him.

A total of 16 people were treated on scene and have been taken to hospital.

SAPS will be investigating the accident.
