‘Strong partnership needed to enhance service delivery’ – councillor

'Forging strong partnership with the community is important in bringing service delivery to the people...In this way we are all responsible citizens.' - Councillor Mzamo Billy.

NEWLY elected PR councillor, Mzamo Billy said forging strong partnerships with the community is important in bringing service delivery to the people.

According to Billy, this meeting was attended by mostly young people who have shown great interest in being part of change.

“Members of the community stressed how excited they were to have a councillor who is accessible and ready to tackle service delivery issues in the community. I conceded that as a PR Councillor I may not have the powers to bring total change in the community as there is already an elected councillor.

“However issues such as potholes, refuse collection, replacing street lights and basic service delivery queries can be reported by any person to the municipality and I will be ready to take it up with the relevant department if it is not resolved within a reasonable period,” he said.

Billy added that it is members of the community who must identify and report service delivery failures to both the municipality and the councillor responsible so that it can be resolved.

“In fact the person who sees it first must be the person to report and obtain a reference number. In this way we are all responsible citizens,” he said.
