Public urged to attend NERSA public hearings on Eskom tariff hikes

Eskom tariff increase update - public hearings to happen next month.

FOLLOWING Eskom’s bid to recover R27 billion in losses through a tariff hike, The National Energy Regulator (NERSA) has asked for public comment and will then assess the application by following due regulatory processes.

Meanwhile, the Energy Expert Coalition (EEC) has been working hard on getting people to comment and be heard on the subject.

The non-profit organisation (NPO) will also be attending public hearings next month to argue against the tariff increase.

The KwaZulu-Natal hearing will be held on 6 February at the Olive Convention Centre (81 Somteu Road) from 9am to 5pm.

Members of the public have been invited to attend the hearings and/or to provide public comment.

So far the NPO has amassed almost 200 000 comments.

“We now have official legal evidence of the public participation. Such tremendous response is a true demonstration of the power of the public voice when fuelled by disapproval. Well done to you all,” EEC said in a statement.

“If you missed the deadline for written comment, do not stress – you still have an opportunity to have your say. As promised, I will be representing you at the upcoming public hearings to be held in each province throughout February,” said Ted Blom, an energy expert with the Energy Expert Coalition.
