Man hijacked in New Germany minutes before job interview

The Ballito resident was driving his sister's grey Nissan Micra when he was approached by three men on Nipper Road.

A JOB interview turned into a nightmare for a Ballito resident after he was hijacked in a grey Nissan Micra in New Germany yesterday, (Monday, 27 January).

Brendan Wilson said he had just parked outside the company in Nipper Road.

“I got there 30 minutes early and I was just texting the person I came to see to let them know that I have arrived early.

“The next thing I saw was a man next to my window. He greeted me and I thought he was going to ask me for a cigarette. A second man with a gun also approached me through the driver’s window.”

Before he knew it, Wilson said a third man approached him from the passenger window.

“They pulled me out and searched me. Two men got into the car and the one carrying the gun ran into an opposite direction. He got into a white Corolla and drove off, following the other two who fled with my car,” explained Wilson.

He told the Highway Mail that the car he was driving was not even his.

“I borrowed the car from my sister. I still had to do my interview after that ordeal and then called my family to pick me up.”

The hijackers also fled with Wilson’s phone, birth certificate, ID and trade test papers. The car’s number plate is NZ 1615, 2004 model.

A case of hijacking was opened at Pinetown SAPS.
