Gillitts man attacked with panga in home robbery

The assailant smashed through a window pane to flee the scene.

A GILLITTS man was injured during a confrontation with a panga-wielding intruder in his home this morning.

Blue Security’s tactical ambassador, Russel Lawson, said armed response offers responded to a panic alarm at the property just after 4am.

“At least one suspect gained entry into the home, where he was confronted by the residents,” Lawson said.

“A scuffle broke out between one of the residents and the suspect. The suspect hit the resident on his head with a panga and fled the scene in a panic, jumping through and shattering a window pane,” Lawson said.

Rescue Care paramedics attended the scene and transported the resident to hospital. In addition to the blow to the head, the resident also had scratch wounds from the scuffle.

Lawson said it was unclear whether there were any other suspects on the property during the housebreaking.

A flat screen television and an Xbox console were reported stolen.
