KwaThintwa’s 2019 matrics excel

The four learners ensured the school achieved a 100 per cent pass rate as well as a 100 per cent Bachelor's Degree pass.

KWATHINTWA School for the Deaf has continued to be a trend-setter in deaf education as it has achieved a 100 per cent pass rate for nine consecutive years, the only school for the deaf in the country that has done so.

Its 2019 matrics exceeded expectations as they also achieved a 100 per cent Bachelor’s Degree pass and all received three or more As.

“The quality and calibre of our educators and learners does not stop there as our 2019 Dux, Thabile Mathumbu, was placed first in the country for South African Sign Language (SASL) Home Language and Philile Shezi place third,” said the school’s proud principal, Dr Mavis Naidoo.

This achievement comes hot on the heels of KwaThintwa’s 2018 matric results where Thabile Qondani was placed second in the country for SASL.

“These incredible results are due to hard work and dedication by KwaThintwa’s staff and their ability to instill a passion for learning from a young age. Strong leadership, an environment conducive to learning and an unwavering belief in learners allowed us to produce these phenomenal results,” said Naidoo.

KwaThintwa accepts learners from three years old and gives them a nurturing environment from pre-school to matric.
