Children’s day out a roaring success

TO kickstart the new year for more than 50 children from Malvern Children’s home, the bikers from the Pinetown chapter of MACS hosted a fun day out at the Ridley Park Bowling Club.

The local bikers visited the home three weeks ago and, of the 80 children in its care, just more than 50 of them do not go home for the December holidays.

“We put this fun day together in two weeks,” said the club’s vice president, Jan Grobler.

“We all wanted to give something back. We know that all of these children come from difficult backgrounds and some of their parents even live close by but don’t take the time to see them during Christmas,” he said.

The group pooled their funds and hired inflatables and called on the Ridley Park Bowling Club and the eThekwini Fire Department for assistance. The day was also supported by MACS KZN chapters, Silverbacks, Christian Motorcycle Association and a hearty donation from the Evolution Motorcycle Club.

The laughter of the children as they slid down the giant inflatable waterslides was nothing shy of contagious. There was also face painting, a soccer pitch, a jumping castle and delicious lunch and a party pack that contained sweets, chips and a toy in each one.

“A big thank you goes to each club for their support, to the Ridley Park Bowling Club for the use of their venue and to the fire department for coming through to entertain the children,” said Jan.
