Three arrested for possession of stolen car, unlicensed firearms in Waterfall

The Toyota Etios was reported stolen in the Bellair area in January this year and preliminary investigations revealed that the pistol was reported stolen in Chatsworth in February last year.

THREE suspects, aged between 25 and 30, were arrested in Waterfall for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as property suspected to be stolen on Monday evening.

According to Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Capt Linzi Smith, the officers received information about a suspected stolen vehicle that was being driven around the Waterfall area near Hillcrest.

“The car was stopped and officers asked the occupants to climb out of the car. Police searched the car and found an AK47 with nine live rounds of ammunition. One of the suspects was also found with a 9mm pistol with 11 rounds of ammunition in his possession,” said Smith.

Smith added that the Toyota Etios was reported stolen in the Bellair area in January this year and preliminary investigations revealed that the pistol was reported stolen in Chatsworth in February last year.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s court tomorrow, Wednesday, 8 January 2020.
