IEB matric results: Kearsney College

IEB schools in the Highway area celebrated the outstanding achievements of their 2019 matriculants.

FOR the ninth consecutive year, Kearsney College has upheld its reputation for mathematics and science excellence as double the number of boys achieved distinctions when compared with the national IEB distinction rate.

For mathematics 48.2 per cent of Kearsney’s matrics achieved distinctions, with an IEB average of 24.9 per cent and 27.4 per cent of the learners achieved distinctions for physical sciences, with an IEB average of 16.8 per cent).

Hayden de Kock, the College’s 2019 Dux, received eight distinctions and was on the IEB’s Outstanding List. He achieved 100 per cent for mathematics and engineering graphics and design (EGD), Afrikaans (91 per cent), English (88 per cent), life orientation (91 per cent), life sciences (86 per cent), physical sciences (98 per cent) and AP mathematics (95 per cent). He plans to study actuarial science at Stellenbosch University this year.

He represented the KZN Southern Coastal golf team and his school’s 1st golf team and was the captain of Kearsney’s 1st X1 hockey.

Nine Kearsney boys ranked in the top 1 per cent of learners nationally in individual subjects: Hayden de Kock (EGD, mathematics, physical sciences, AP maths), Bryce Crockart (English), Jack Savage and Greg Barnett (history), Ryan Healy, Kevyn Meyer, Ethan Mills and Justin Goldie (EGD), and Connor Griffiths (maths literacy).

Kearsney maintained its 100 pass rate and a 98 per cent Bachelor’s Degree pass.

“Kearsney College’s priority is academics and we are delighted that the class of 2019 has worked so hard and achieved the results that reinforce our well-established reputation for academic excellence,” said Kearsney’s headmaster, Elwyn van den Aardweg. “Once again, we are thrilled with the outstanding results in the key stem subjects of Mathematics, Physical Sciences, EGD and IT being approximately double the national IEB averages.”
