Enjoy creating your own Christmas wreath to brighten up your home this festive season.

A WREATH hanging on the door is one of the most prominent signs that the festive season is upon us.                                                                        Also read: What’s on in Durban this festive season

There are so many different styles and colours around, from timeless to stylish, feathers and leaves, green and glittery – there’s one to suit everyone’s taste and preference.

What’s better than just buying one from the shop, is actually making it yourself – whether it be a one-man task, or whether you make it a family affair.

Sean Granger, the general manager of Granny Mouse Country House and Spa, shared his favourite style of wreath.

“If you’re looking for a trendy and indigenous look, pick leaves and shrubbery from your garden and place them on your wreath, to create a beautiful, home grown design. It’s relatively quick, fun for the whole family to enjoy and cost-effective,” he said.

It’s easy to make:
1.       Start by soaking an oasis ring (available from most florists) in a basin of cold water for a few hours until it’s wet all the way through.
2.       Place it on a flat surface and push short pieces of ruscus, or whatever plant you have at home that is able to cover up spaces nicely, around the edges to hide the plastic backing.
3.       Next, position your largest greenery pieces to create focal points around the wreath, and fill in the gaps with smaller pieces that you picked.

A nice element to add are a few flowers that you have at home, or you could leave it completely filled with greenery – there’s no wrong way of making a wreath.
