Pinetown designer styles Riky Rick

Cowies-Hill based, Fashion Designer, Teboho Malcolm Mokgope of Refuse Clothing recently styled musician and fashion personality, Rikhado Makhado (Riky Rick).

Mokgope co-owns the local streetwear brand with fellow Durban University of Technology fashion design student, Minenhle Memela and the duo were put in contact with Riky Rick through popular streetwear stylist, Lethabo “Boogy” Maboi.

“The first time we styled Riky was for a Remy Martin advert, which Boogy was influencial in organizing for us,” said Mokgope.

The first meeting between Riky Rick and the designers behind the brand, Refuse Clothing, was at the recent Sneaker Exchange event in Durban. “Riky had already known about the brand, he just had not met us yet, the people behind the brand,” said the young designer.

Refuse aren’t strangers to styling some of South Africa’s biggest urban artist.

“We’ve worked with Speedsta (Hip-hop DJ), Rudeboyz (Gqom Dj-ing duo), Aewon Wolf (Rapper) and we styled the now disbanded group, WTF – Witness The Funk, for their volo-volo music video,” says Mokgope who has ambitions of styling other local celebs like; Nasty C, AKA and Cassper Nyovest.

“The plan is to work with international personalities like ASAP Rocky. The main priority for us is to work with people that have a strong presence in Fashion,” he says.
