She said at school she wrote short stories, did storytelling, debate and poetry and received lots of encouragement and supports from her teachers.

Mbala was born in the Eastern Cape and has recently moved to Ashley, Pinetown.

“I get my inspiration from the things that are happening around the world which people can relate to. The book relates to everyone and especially young people. I just wish young people can focus on important things and value themselves,” said Zikhona.

“Women need to stop staying in toxic relationships and enduring abuse because they have been promised marriage. Getting married can be a good thing, but if you don’t get married, it is not something to be ashamed about. People should not give their whole life to someone just to avoid the shame of being single.

“People need to use protection, HIV is there. It is so sad that there are people out there who still have a mindset that ‘they will not die alone and so spread the disease,” said the focused Mbala.

The 25-year-old said she believes people will enjoy reading her book as it is not only educational but also has a bit of humour.

“It gives hope, it tells people that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Mbala is studying civil engineering at Coastal College in Durban and is currently working as an intern.

She said she sees herself self-employed and successful. It is so hard to write and work at the same time. “You do not get enough time to promote your book.”

The book cost R200 and is available at Adams and Griggs in Durban.
