Fund-raising bowling event aims to keep Hillcrest beautiful

The bowling event held at the beautiful Hillcrest Bowling club to raise funds for Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association (KHBA) last weekend was a wonderful success.

THE sunshine on Sunday, 17 November was a welcome relief from the extreme weather of the past week and saw a record number of bowlers taking to the greens at Hillcrest Bowling Club for the event open to all to raise funds for the Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association (KHBA) .

The fun, drawn mixed trips format ensured all had a good time. Bowlers, veterans and novices alike enjoyed the “no uniform but add a touch of red” dress code, some clearly vying for the best-dressed prize.

The flashes of red contrasted beautifully with the immaculate greens which form part of the William Gillitts Sports Ground. Organiser of the event, Barbara of KHBA, said she was delighted with the turnout and prizes that had been sponsored for the day and was especially grateful to Hillcrest Bowling Club for hosting the event.

“Our association keeps the central business district verges tidy and weed-free, it maintains the rail reserve through Hillcrest by cutting the grass and removing invasive alien plants and runs and manages a popular and successful recycling centre,” she said.

“This fund-raising helps us to do this work and keep our community looking, well, beautiful, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the Hillcrest Bowling Club’s help.”
