THE international theme for 2019’s World AIDS Day is Communities Make The Difference and the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) invites supporters to join its team and take part in empowerment projects in the build up to Sunday, 1 December.
“HACT will be opening its doors in the week leading up to this year’s World AIDS Day with a special line-up of events and activities on offer to those looking to play their part by volunteering their time and skills,” said HACT’s CEO, Candace Davidson.
This year’s World AIDS Day theme aims to celebrate the essential role communities have and continue to play in the response to HIV and AIDS and recognise its crucial importance, particularly at the present time when local NGOs such as HACT are looking to find more ways to sustain the life-saving HIV prevention, education and care services which they deliver at a grassroots level. World AIDS Day is also an opportunity for our wider community, who are perhaps less affected, to learn about the disease and find ways to give back in their own capacity.

The World AIDS Day volunteering opportunities available in the week leading up to 1 December include preparing meals for patients in its 24-bed Respite Unit, assisting in the Plant Nursery and at Woza Moya, as well as community-based activities at local schools and creches.
