Durban, help restore Shezi’s sight

Sithembiso lost his sight in 2014 after suffering from a headache and nose bleeds.

SITHEMBISO Shezi and his supportive cousin, Menzi spend their days pleading for funds to help him pay for an eye operation.

The Highway Mail met Shezi at KwaDabeka Clinic where he shared his story and asked for any assistance from the community.

The 35-year-old Shezi said he became blind in 2014 after suffering from a headache and nose bleeds.

“In December, 2017 I was referred to St Augustine Hospital after seeking western medicine treatment. They did a check up and found that I needed a cornea transplant in one eye as the other one had been severely damaged,” explained Shezi.

He said it was hard at first as he could see perfectly for 30 years.

“Since last year I decided to do something about my situation and instead of feeling sorry for myself, I visit clinics, churches and testing grounds to ask for assistance as the operation will cost R33 000.

“So far people have been generous as I have raised R17 000. Every cent helps, I do not go around asking for thousands,” he said.

“I am grateful to my cousin who has made it his priority to accompany me everywhere I go and the managers who allow me to ask for donations,” he said.

Shezi can be contacted on 071 8356 827.
