The documentary was premiered alongside a photo exhibition curated by Spanish photographer, Luiza Lacava. The event was supported by Barcelona’s skateboarding community as well as Lamona Magazine, which is a lifestyle indie-inspired publication. The money collected at the event went to the Indigo Skate Project in the Valley of 1 000 Hills.

Skateboarding will be in the 2020 Olympic Games and has enjoyed a resurgence of sorts, that will increase as we get closer to the games in Japan. Khule will surely be one of the South African skaters leading the resurgence.

He believes in the resurgence of the sport, especially here in South Africa: “Skateboarding in South Africa is very much alive and now that skateboarding is part of the Olympic games it’s actually an interesting time,” said Khule from Barcelona.

“There is more investment coming in and they are already building new skate parks in bigger cities like Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. So, it’s evolving and it’s growing!” Khule was excited about the turnout at the premier and photo exhibition. “The project had a huge turnout and skaters from all over Barca came to the show. It was truly humbling and amazing,” said Khule.

Khule and Marco met on a Monster Energy Tour in Moscow and became good friends during the trip. “We kept in touch after the trip and Marco was going to come to The Ballito Pro in the coming months and to Durban, being my hometown,we agreed on doing a documentary to showcase local talent on an international platform.”

“The message I wanted to get across with Intando KaNkulunkulu documentary is that any dream is possible, regardless of your circumstances,” said Khule.

“If you put your heart and soul into what you desire, God or the universe will lead you to the right places at the right time. I wanted my story to give people hope and don’t lose faith in the process.”
