CALLUM Lingley, a Grade 6 learner, is Westville Senior Primary’s SPAR Star of the Month.
Callum is ranked first in KZN in the U13 age group for golf.
Last month, he participated in the nationals in Stellenbosch and ranked 17th of 94 players at that tournament. His gross scores over the three days were 75, 78 and 75.
Callum’s love for the sport started when he was just three years old when his dad took him to the driving range and began teaching him how to play. Five years later, Callum participated in his first golf competition.
Callum singles out US player, Jordan Spieth, as his role model. Spieth stands out for Callum due to his conduct on the course as he is calm and focussed and has a positive attitude in tough situations.
These personality traits are reflected in Callum as his educators describe him as well mannered, hard-working, self-motivated and a creative thinker with an exemplary work ethic.
Callum’s favourite school subjects include mathematics and Afrikaans. Other sports that he participates in are cricket, hockey, rugby and swimming.
When he finishes school, he would like to study engineering or architecture and play golf professionally.
