St Benedict awards top learners

Dominique Strydom was awarded Dux of the school, Jade Campbell was awarded Proxime Accessit Dux.

ST Benedict School hosted its final matric prize-giving ceremony with Shimon Corcos, a previous Dux of SBS, as the guest of honour.

The award of Dux for 2019 went to Dominique Strydom who also received subject awards for Afrikaans, physical science, information technology, life orientation and engineering graphics and design (EGD).

She received the Cardinal Newman Award which is given to a learner who may not have achieved the top marks in English but has shown a passion for the language and was also awarded academic honours.

Dominique was deputy head prefect for 2019 and she shared the leadership trophy with Jessica Collings, the head prefect for 2019. The leadership trophy is awarded to the learner/s who has fulfilled their leadership role with commitment, honesty and integrity and has provided a good role model to others.

The Dux Proxime Accessit (runner-up to Dux) was awarded to Jade Campbell who also received subject awards for English, life sciences and life orientation, as well as academic honours.

The principal’s award, which is given to the learner who emulates the values and ethos of the school in all their daily interactions and who epitomises a spirit of enthusiasm and positivism, was awarded to Siyathokoza Nkozi.

The ceremony concluded with a candle-lighting ceremony and then every matric learner had the opportunity to ring the school bell for the last time.
