Kloof SPCA still reeling after weekend of fireworks

If your pet is missing, the Kloof and Highway urges you to visit your nearest animal shelters as soon as possible.

THE Kloof and Highway SPCA took in 24 dogs, five cats, one tortoise, one hadeda and one Dassie at the weekend. The NPO was open on both evenings at the weekend to ensure that animals affected by the fireworks were taken care of.

Six dogs were claimed by their owners this weekend. One dog and one cat were killed in motor vehicle accidents and were brought to the Kloof and Highway SPCA.

“We would like to thank all members of our community who helped assist any animals in distress this weekend. We appeal to anyone who may have lost their pet to visit their closest SPCA urgently to claim them,” said the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s manager, Barbara Patrick.

“We will still have to deal with Guy Fawkes on Tuesday, 5 November and New Year on Tuesday, 31 December. To those purchasing fireworks, please adhere to the rules regarding fireworks and rather spend your hard earned money making a difference in the lives of animals, rather than causing them distress and suffering. All animals, not only our beloved pets, are affected by fireworks. Please think of our wildlife and birds before you buy fireworks,” said Barbara.
