SOUTH African Social Security Agency has alerted social grant beneficiaries to be vigilant against any suspicious action towards the social grant gold payment card fraud.
“If anything looks uncommon or creates doubts, the beneficiary must immediately call or visit nearest the local SASSA offices for assistance,” said Mpumalanga SASSA spokesperson, Senzeni Ngubeni.

Ngubeni advised beneficiaries to produce an Identity Document (ID), social grant gold payment card, proof of residence and affidavit confirming the correct personal details upon visiting their nearest offices.
The affidavit must declare and confirm that the unlawful transaction or withdrawal was not committed by the beneficiary or rightful owner of the payment card. If the beneficiary receives a social grant payment through a personal bank account, proof of banking details must also be provided.
“Social grant beneficiaries must note that it is their responsibility to safe guard the payment cards, pin codes and avoid throwing away the slips, as fraudsters can use the personal information of the beneficiary to access money in the account.”
Ngubeni added that beneficiaries have a right to change the password at SASSA offices or South African Post Offices when they suspect the pin code has been compromised or no longer a secret.
