‘He was a ‘zombie’, says UKZN murder accused

The accused will appear again in court on Monday, 21 October for his bail application.

A UNIVERSITY of KwaZulu-Natal student accused of murdering his roommate, Samkelo Zondi appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court earlier today.  

KZN police spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker said a case of murder is being investigated by Westville SAPS.

“In the early hours of  Saturday, 12 October, the body of a 24-year-old victim was found burnt in a bushy area in Westville.

“Zondi was reported missing on Thursday, 10 October at Westville SAPS. A 25-year-old suspect was seen emerging from the bushes and was placed under arrest for murder. The motive for the killing is yet to be established as the investigations continue,” said Naicker.

In a video that emerged on social media, the accused said he killed Zondi because he thought he was a zombie and the only way to deal with zombies is to burn them.

His bail application was postponed to Monday next week and the accused will be remanded at Westville prison.
