ST Mary’s DSG, Kloof’s Grade 7 learner, Catherine Young, is the primary school SPAR Star of the Month.
Catherine has been selected for the U13 Girls KZN Shadow Squad and a final team will be selected to participate in the Inter-Provincial Girls’ Cricket Tournament in Gauteng from 6 to 10 December.
Catherine started playing cricket with her older brother, Christopher and soon after, started private coaching with Gareth Brown High Performance.
Gareth then trained Catherine alongside the girls’ KZN U16 cricket squad, who encouraged her to attend trials where she was selected for the U13 Girls’ Shadow Squad. All of this has happened in just four months.
Catherine is a valued team member and represents St Mary’s senior primary school’s 1st teams for softball, hockey, water polo and soccer. Her favourite week this year was when St Mary’s celebrated the Cricket World Cup and had a fun cricket-themed week.
Catherine aims to go into anything that involves sport when she finishes school and would love to represent SA for softball.
