Candotti says organisations like Keep Hillcrest Beautiful and The Kloof Project have done amazing work to improve the appearance of Hillcrest and Kloof and residents in those two suburbs will surely be able to agree with the statements above.

“Research worldwide has demonstrated that people living in areas that are well maintained, have lots of green spaces and greenery in the form of plants and trees have a much healthier lifestyle and feel happier,” said Candotti.

According to Candotti green spaces provide social, environmental, and economic benefits which both, directly and indirectly, enhance an individual’s quality of life. “They help to improve physical, psychological, emotional, social and material well-being which underlie several models of quality of life,” he said.

Candotti says organisations like Keep Hillcrest Beautiful and The Kloof Project have done amazing work to improve the appearance of Hillcrest and Kloof and residents in those two suburbs will surely be able to agree with the statements above.

“The eThekwini Municipality’s Parks and Leisure Department want to encourage the “greening” of our city in order to help improve quality of life – many sceptics will say that there are more important issues but we should rather applaud the municipality in this case as it is one action that is needed and helps towards achieving the bigger picture,” he added.

Entries close on Friday, 27 September and the forms are available on the eThekwini Municipality website.
