Kloof residents plant 175 trees

To balance out the many that are felled for various reasons, The Kloof Project set about providing families the chance to get planting now to ensure they continue to have the spectacular tree lined roads that Kloof is renowned for.

THE Kloof Project recently held the first Arbour Day community mass greening initiative in Kloof.

The Kloof Project committee thought that if Ethiopia as a country can plant 350 million trees in a day, surely Kloof residents can plant 175 in a weekend.

To balance out the many that are felled for various reasons, The Kloof Project set about providing families the chance to get planting now to ensure they continue to have the spectacular tree lined roads that Kloof is renowned for.

The Donate and Plant Arbour Day concept held over the weekend saw local business staff, families of all ages, armed with spades and water bottles happily planting their adopted tree in ready-prepared compost and fertilised holes dug by the garden team.

“We are very grateful for the enthusiastic involvement by our local schools, where the youth are realising their role in protecting the Kloof environment in which they live, ” said Dr Bruce Thomson, youth desk co-ordinator for The Kloof Project.

“We would like to make this an annual event and next year plant along more main roads we have identified as being in need for further long-term greening.

The trees were generously supplied to us by various wholesale nurseries, along with identification tags by Plasgrow and support droppers from Poles Galore,” said Chris Dalzell, chairman of The Kloof Project.
