WATCH: The sky is the limit for voices in the hills

Don’t miss these incredible world-class musicians in a dynamic celebration of music and culture.

A MASS choir of the sweetest voices, together with the popular Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School and accompanied by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra is simply an experience not to be missed.

This wonderfully curated show takes place at the annual Festival in the Hills event and is a highlight of the cultural calendar.

Hosted by Kloof Rotary, Curro HCA and Durban Preparatory High School (DPHS), Festival in the Hills is on Friday, 6 September at CityHill Auditorium in Hillcrest at 6pm.

The festival provides a platform for more than 700 primary school children from around KwaZulu-Natal to explore their creativity and test their voices as they participate in a day of exciting workshops as well as performing alongside the world-class KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and South Africa’s singing ambassadors, the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir in the main event.

“It’s the third time we are participating in Festival In The Hills. It’s a wonderful event that brings schools together and showcases their choirs in a very professional way; the children get to interact with good musicians who take part in the concert, and the workshops are very beneficial. The Rotary Club does a wonderful job and they’ve been doing it for a great number of years now,” said the Drakensberg Choir School’s artistic director, Bernard Kruger.Director.

MC again this year is the jovial and debonair East Coast Radio presenter, Darren Maule, who adds a humorous flair as he interacts with the audience by adding his voice to the evening.

“It’s very easy to see why South Africa is being represented on some of the biggest stages – namely America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent – with our choirs, because South Africa has some of the best choirs in the world; and some of KZN’s choirs are some of the best in the country. To be a part of a showcasing of all these schools choirs is really something quite spectacular and there is no way that you could put a monetary value to the experience you receive from it,” said Maule.

East Coast Radio presenter, Darren Maule, is MC of the Festival in the Hills event.

“When you reach the part of the programme where all the choirs are brought on stage together, the sound that you hear in that exquisite auditorium is really something to behold. There is no price that you can put on tickets for that sort of experience and I am so glad to be invited back to be a part of this again.”

With this year’s theme being ‘The Sky is the Limit’, the event aims to instil confidence and motivation in the children that nothing is impossible!

All funds raised go directly to the Kloof Rotary Club, who are committed to community service in both Kloof and the surrounding areas, concentrating on disadvantaged areas.

To whet your appetite, check out these videos taken last week at Durban Preparatory High School (DPHS) when five boys from the Drakensberg Boys Choir School visited the school to treat them to a taste of what the festival has to offer.

Then the Durban boys tried their hand and showed they had been paying attention:
