Elderly Hillcrest resident stabbed with garden shears during scuffle

The suspect, who fled with a stolen bicycle, was arrested with the help of the Gillitts neighbourhood watch.

A MAN who was trying to protect his relative from an unknown man was stabbed in his mouth during a scuffle on Friday.

It is alleged that an elderly woman (84) just arrived at her home in Hillcrest when she was confronted by the unknown man.

According to KZN police spokesman Lt/Col Thulani Zwane, the woman was getting out of her vehicle when the suspect grabbed her by the throat and a scuffle ensued.

“A relative (67), who witnessed the attack, came to assist her. He tried to separate them but the suspect grabbed a pair of garden shears from the garage and stabbed the man in his mouth,’ said Zwane.
