Waterfall College’s culture on show

Sixteen learners from the school recently put on an entertaining stage rendition of stories from The Brothers Grimm.

WATERFALL College, in association with StagePartners, recently presented In the Forest Grimm’, an entertaining adaptation of three tales by the Brothers Grimm.

Infused with the trademark wit from the school’s head of dramatic arts, Greg Kyle, it provided an opportunity for the cast to stretch themselves and culminated in a wonderfult team effort that had audiences glued to the stage.

Run over two nights, the production included performances by 2019’s head girl, Abigail Kane, and head boy, Cameron Semple. “There are few events that stand out quite like the school play,” said Cameron.

“Mostly because it is the accumulation of months of metaphorical blood, actual sweat and maybe tears. Play practice never feels like a burden because you know that something hilarious will inevitably happen. What many people don’t see are the months of hard work and the sacrifices the cast and the directors have made. But, when the cast and crew are so passionate about it, we all know that it will come together to form a great piece of entertainment.”

The cast included 16 learners from Grade 8 to matric, and each one brought life to a range of characters, from Hansel and Gretel to three troublesome stars and even a couple of ghosts.

“Waterfall College is made up of wonderful learners,” said Greg. “Their commitment and heart are difficult to match, and I am so privileged to have spent time with this cast. A very special bond is always formed when you work with learners over a long period of time. I am grateful to all involved, especially to Dylan Cooper, who helped me direct the play.”
