Dale runs to raise funds for rhinos

Highbury Grade 7 learner will run between 30 and 45km along sandy roads in the St Lucia area and must raise a minimum of R2 000 for Highbury’s two adopted rhinos, Tai and Baleka.

GRADE 7 learner, Dale Jackson is Highbury’s SPAR Star this month. Dale has always been a keen runner, along with his older brothers, Blake and Hayden.

He is currently training and fundraising to take part in the 11th Annual Maputaland Challenge in September this year. He will run between 30 and 45km along sandy roads in the St Lucia area and must raise a minimum of R2 000 for Highbury’s two adopted rhinos, Tai and Baleka.

Dale’s mother, Pippa Jackson, said, “When this charitable opportunity came along through the school, organised by retired Highbury teacher of 36 years Paddy Collins, it spoke directly to Dale and his brothers before him. Raising money for rhino conservation was easy motivation and made sense to them as Africans and nature lovers.

“Getting fit to run between 30-45kms is the other criteria necessary and takes just as much commitment. Good luck to all the boys participating; training and raising money for this good cause,” said Dale’s mum.

Head of Senior Primary at Highbury, David Burns said Highbury is very proud of Dale Jackson’s commitment to this cause. “He is a young man of integrity and has the grit and determination needed for a major challenge like this. Go for it, Dale,” said Burns.
