HILLCREST Scout Campsite was abuzz with activity as participants and trainers of the Cub and Scout Wood Badge Course for 2019 ended its second weekend on Sunday, 18 August.

The Wood Badge Course, the pinnacle of scouter training, is for many the culmination of many years of work as a volunteer in a cub pack or scout troop, and is usually rounded off with a banquet to celebrate the completion of the two-weekend-long course.

The Scouters undergoing the training have to fulfil requirements in a variety of skills to complete their training, including written and practical assignments, and this year’s group still have to complete a personal project and go back to their packs and troops to complete the final tasks before being awarded the coveted Wood Badge.

This year is particularly significant as it marks the centenary of the very first Wood Badge Course’s completion by the founder of Scouting, Robert Baden Powell, in 1919.
