WATCH: Truck on fire on M7 near Southway Mall

The huge delays on M7 today between the Bluff and Queensburgh near Seaview and Rossburgh were caused by a truck on the westbound lane of the road being on fire and rescue services having to partially close the major route.

A TRUCK, which crashed on the main road between Queensburgh and the Bluff, the M7, also known as Solomon Mahlangu Drive, burst into flames on the westbound lane.

Rescue Care paramedics spokesman reported that the truck driver had sustained moderate injuries and the M7 was limited to only one lane of traffic which was causing a significant backlog of traffic on the much-used route for vehicles travelling towards the western suburbs of Durban.

The M7 is already a route which has been under strain since the section between Bellair and the N2 has been undergoing road upgrades which have caused significant delays for many vehicles which rely on it to get between the South and West of Durban daily. It is also the main route for trucks into and out of the port of Durban.

As of 10.15am when this story was written the fire had been put out and responders were clearing the scene. Investigators are reportedly on the scene to try to find out what led to the crash and fire.
