Team work leads to swift arrest of Assagay robber

The victim, 49-year-old woman, was alone in the house when she heard a strange noise coming from the lounge.

HILLCREST SAPS communications officer Linzi Smith has praised the good working relationship between police, the community and security services.

This comes after a man was arrested for robbing a home in Assagay last week.

According to Smith, the victim, a woman aged 49, was alone at her house.

“She entered the lounge door from the outside and left the burglar gate unlocked.

“She heard a noise in the lounge and saw a a man carrying her Hisense TV. She then pressed her panic button,” explained Smith.

Smith said the man dropped the TV in the lounge.

“The alarm went off and the suspect ran down towards the fence. The victim ran behind him. She screamed loudly and the neighbours started to chase the suspect, followed by Blue Security and the dog unit.”

The dog unit managed to apprehend the suspect.

He was detained at Hillcrest SAPS. A case of house robbery has been opened, and is under investigation.

“The victim sustained no injuries. It is great to see our community and security services working together as a team. Working together we can make a difference in crime,” added Smith.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
