Mariannridge locals rally to reclaim their streets

Dozens of parents and teens made there way to show their support for the Mariannridge Coordinating Committee's anti-drug campaign.

TO reclaim its community and create a safe environment for children to grow up in, the Mariannridge Coordinating Committee, together with residents, recently embarked on the second of three drug awareness campaigns.

“During July, August and September we will host drug awareness campaigns in specific locations within the community where the drugs are in operation, to break the silence and claim back our community as a drug free zone,” said committee member, Semone Gilden.

One of the speakers at the event, Jenny Boyce, said, “Our children’s futures are being destroyed and they are being destroyed at such an alarming rate that it keeps me up at night. There are some children that are popping between 15 to 20 Xanax tablets a day.

“How a human being can do that to another human being is beyond me. We are here to say to our children that there are choices and there are alternatives and that it is okay to choose the alternatives. We are here to say to the drug dealers that we will reclaim this community for our children!”
