Seaview grandfather shot while protecting his daughter-in-law

The three men fled with the grandfather's firearm and no other valuables.

A SEAVIEW grandfather was shot while trying to protect his daughter-in-law during a home robbery this morning.

Blue Security’s community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, said the daughter-in-law stepped outside the house before 6am when a gang of armed robbers entered the property. The woman’s father-in-law, husband and son were inside the house at the time of the incident.

“When she went outside, the resident saw a suspicious vehicle driving past. Three suspects then jumped over the perimeter wall. They held her up at gunpoint and pushed her back into the house where a scuffle then broke out between the suspects and her father-in-law,” said Mathios.

“Her father-in-law pulled out his firearm and fired a shot in an attempt to protect her,” he said.

The suspects returned fire and shot the father-in-law in the leg. They grabbed his firearm and fled the scene without taking any other valuables.

The man was taken to hospital by paramedics. Despite the police finding multiple bullet casings at the scene of the crime, no other other injuries were reported.
