Plant indigenous for good cause

Top up your garden with an array of indigenous plants and help support the Drummond Conservancy in the process.

ONCE again, the Drummond Conservancy will open its doors and welcome the community to enjoy a wonderful morning out in fresh country air at Lot 150/3 Duiker Drive, Drummond from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, 3 August.

“Arguably the best plant sale in the province, a huge range of beautiful indigenous plants and trees will be available to purchase at very low prices, and local experts are on hand to assist with growing guidelines and advice on eradication of Invasive Alien Plants,” said the Drummond Conservancy’s secretary, Felicity von Oettingen.

Each vehicle will receive a free tea/coffee voucher. There will be home-made treats, beer, wine and soft drinks on sale.

There will be a produce table that will be overflowing with a delicious variety of organic and locally made goods, from goats’ cheese, chicken flatties, mayonnaise and pesto to jams, pickles, free range eggs, crunchies and rusks.

Drummond is a registered conservancy that has been in operation for more than 25 years. Its purpose is to encourage residents to be pro-active in caring for the environment as well as the eradication of Alien Invasive Plants (IAP’s), and to replace these plants with appropriate indigenous flora.

“By promoting the increase in the variety and number of indigenous plants, birds and other wildlife in the area, the conservancy is creating corridors of green open space along river areas and between properties and fences. The conservancy also acts an environmental watch dog and reports problems to the relative authorities after consultation with the property owners involved,” said Felicity.

No dogs are allowed as there are loose dogs on the owner’s property. Contact Felicity on 083 777 9430.
