New outdoor play area for highway baby home

The home has an 'Adopt A Cot' programme, if you 'Adopt A cot' you sponsor that baby who is in the cot and you get updates on the baby throughout the period of your adoption.

THE Upper Highway Baby Home opened its doors in January this year with the beautiful aim of looking after abandoned and vulnerable babies until they are adopted.

Last month the home received a well deserved revamp on their outdoor play area.

The home is run by Kerry and Gary Stanton who also support the facility financially.

It costs in the region of R50 000 per month to run the home. Both Kerry and Gary are registered and approved foster parents and can each foster six children.

“The babies are brought up in a homely environment with everything they need to be placed into families as happy well adjusted babies. Most of our babies are with us for a full year as we cannot adopt internationally with babies under one year of age. We pride ourselves on being the best baby home for the babies and have been accredited by both Christian Social Services and the Department of Social Development,” said Kerry.

The couple have three children of their own, Samuel (20), Rebecca (17) and Sma (10).

The family are all passionate about protecting the vulnerable.

Their youngest child, Sma, is adopted and they understand adoption and the needs of adopted children and their families so are in an excellent position to facilitate the transition of the babies into their adopted homes.

At the core of the home is a team of staff and volunteers. Volunteers are the pillar of the home and maintain the link of the home with the community.

The Upper Highway Baby Home has about 60 committed and reliable volunteers whom Kerry and Gary feel are the best people around. When people are doing something out of love you always get to meet the very best of human kind.

The facility is a registered NPO and PBO and can issue section 18 A certificates for donations.

“The home readily accepts donations in kind and these go a long way towards providing for consumables, clothes and so on but we do need money to pay salaries, medical aid and utility bills,” Kerry said.

The home has an ‘Adopt A Cot’ programme, if you ‘Adopt A cot’ you sponsor that baby who is in the cot and you get updates on the baby throughout the period of your adoption.

The full adoption fee is R5000 per month but we realise this is a significant amount of money and we do not want to limit the opportunity to this service, so any person or company can contribute any amount which will be greatly appreciated and enables us to plan accordingly.

“We are so grateful for everyone who shared the Mandela Day Spirit and came to help us out and do their 67 minutes,” said Kerry.
