Hospital steps in to help save Pinetown’s baby Hollyn

Netcare Sunninghill Hospital read about baby Hollyn story and offered to do the operation.

PINETOWN parents, Roxanne Pennington and Kerwin Fortein, are thankful their five-month-old baby, Hollyn, was able to undergo an operation on Tuesday, 30 July.

The couple needed to raise R400 000 for a lifesaving operation.

Hollyn was born pre-term at seven and half months on 16 February 2019.

Soon after her birth, tests were run for Down Syndrome and she was diagnosed with Hypoglycemia.

Hollyn has two holes in her heart, both said to be 7mm wide and she needed an operation before she turns six months old.

Hollyn’s mother, Roxanne said they received a call two weeks ago from Netcare Sunninghill Hospital. “They said they heard about and read our story and would like to help.

They requested documents which we got back to them and last week on Monday morning we received the amazing news that they will be doing our daughter’s operation,” said the relieved Roxanne.

She said Netcare was sponsoring it so they will not be required to pay for anything.

The wonderful news came at a time when the parents were losing hope as they did not have enough funds and time was running out.

“We had reached a point where we turned to God and told Him that we have done all we could, we do not have enough funds and time is running out so He needs to step in and He did,” said Roxanne.

She said this has been a long journey and they have had so many people worldwide supporting them and praying for Hollyn, “we can never thank everyone enough but we are so thankful and just wish God’s blessings on them.”

Roxanne added that the Children’s Cardiac Foundation of Africa have been extremely helpful, “the funds we raised with them, are paying for our flights, accommodation and travel costs while we are there and anything else we will need after the operation including some medical bills. So we are extremely grateful to them,” she said.

The Highway Mail wishes little Hollyn a speedy recovery and a healthy life.
