Rainbow bright run raises funds

Just from spraying their hair, the learners at St Mary's DSG raised more than R4 000 for CANSA.

THE field at St May’s DSG was awash with a rainbow of colour as its learners laced up for their annual Big Walk.

Each Grade was allocated a colour and were encouraged to dress to a theme.

The event is one of the Parent Society fund-raisers for the year and involves learners collecting sponsorship per lap completed and a percentage of that money is donated to a nominated charity.

This year’s charity of choice was the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).

The CANSA Association supplied coloured hairspray and, for R10, the girls and their supporters enjoyed spraying their hair in their respective Grade colour.

This CANSA initiative alone raised more than R4 000.

“Thank you to our generous sponsors Georgie’s Bacon and Crofton Bakery for their donation of bacon and bread rolls. Our Grade 2 and 3 parents made and sold more than 400 delicious bacon and egg rolls during the course of the morning. Thank you to all the parents for their fantastic support and to the girls for their enthusiastic spirit,” said the St Mary’s DSG head of junior primary, Wendy Ross.
