Pinetown model is a glowing light for young women

SEVENTEEN year old Yolanda Hlophe may have just come out of school but she is bursting with wisdom and ideas especially to empower young women.

The first year BCOM student at the Westville Varsity College is a Miss Luminous SA 2019 semi-finalist.

Yolanda said she saw a post on Facebook about auditions for this pageant.

“It caught my attention as it does not only focus on beauty but its aim is to empower women. They are interested in the future of girls and one of the prizes is a bursary.

The bubbly Yolanda described herself as a woman with a luminous vision to help create change and empower young women like herself and the community.

“I feel like I fit in with this pageant that aims to raise future leaders. I also have a younger sister who I wish to also see striving and making a difference.”

The Pinetown resident made it as one of the 25 semi finalists after auditions were held at the Playhouse.

“I wish to make a change and be a good example to young South African women. As women we can empower each other,” she said.

Yolanda with a group of Miss Luminous SA team will be visiting schools with an aim to create awareness to social challenges such as HIV/Aids, education, teenage pregnancy, women and child abuse, drug and substance abuse.

Finalists will be chosen in August and the finals will be held in November.

The finalists will be chosen on their campaigns and their role in giving back to the community.
