Man poses as Pinetown bank employee, robs client of R40 000

The suspect offered to help the victim deposit his money and vanished with the man's R40 000.

A BANK client was robbed of R40 000 by a man who posed as a bank employee in New Germany, Pinetown on Wednesday, 3 June.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said the victim was welcomed by a man who was dressed in black and posed as a bank employee when he entered the bank.

“The suspect offered him a deposit slip and asked him to fill in the details. While the client was filling the bank deposit slip, the suspect asked the client to hand over the money to him so that he can assist him and he disappeared,” said Manqele.

Police are investigating a case of robbery and appeals to anyone who can assist them to contact Sgt Lungisani Zondi of Pinetown SAPS on 031 325 5029 or contact Crime stop on 08600 10111.
