67 BLANKETS for Nelson Mandela Day is preparing for its annual Secret Scarf Mission and needs your help to ‘distribute’ the scarves at St Mary’s Hospital in Mariannhill on Tuesday, 9 July from 3pm.
Now in its sixth year, thousands of scarves are draped around trees and poles where they hang and wait to be taken by passersby in need. A note is attached to each scarf – “I am not lost, if you are cold and need me, please take me.”

The KnitWits for Madiba have been knitting and crocheting beautiful scarves to distribute on the day. The handmade scarves are made with love, to keep people warm in winter and are always distributed in July in celebration of Nelson Mandela’s birthday.
Highway residents are encouraged to volunteer to help tie the scarves to trees and poles or to donate extra scarves. To join in on the outreach programme, contact your local ambassador via the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day website, www.67blankets.co.za.
