Fulton School celebrates new principal

Odette Swift encourages the Futon School for the Deaf learners to dream big and will do everything in her power to turn them into reality.

FULTON School for the Deaf recently welcomed its new principal, Odette Swift.

She was introduced as the principal to the school by Nompucuko Sithole, the KwaSanti Circuit Manager at the KZN Department of Education.

There was great excitement in the hall as learners and staff waved their hands and cheered when the announcement was made.

In an emotional thank-you speech, Odette (as she is known by all) thanked the school body for the cheerful welcome and said that it felt akin to a homecoming. She encouraged the learners to dream crazy dreams and set big goals, and promised to do everything possible to help them achieve those dreams.

Fulton School provides specialised education for deaf learners from the greater Durban and Pietermaritzburg areas and offer weekly boarding facilities.

“We rely heavily on the support of donors and sponsors to help keep our beautiful facilities maintained, and our educational offerings relevant and up to date. I really encourage the upper Highway community to rally alongside the school. While your own children may not attend here, Fulton is part and parcel of the community of the larger Hillcrest area and I hope to forge closer ties with the families and businesses of the area,” said Odette.
